Geode Street Art

Paige Smith is an artist and graphic designer from Los Angeles who, amongst other rad things, creates this beautiful, somewhat magical street art. They're actually geodes* made out of paper and painted.
(*I didn't know that these were called geodes either! They're awesome.)
I love these pieces, they look so cool, it's such a great idea!

Happiness is a Warm Gun

Love this song, and they're one of favourite bands.
It was banned by the BBC because of its sexual symbolism, lol.

This and That

The Letters! They're Alive!

I love this idea! Masumi Kobayashi wanted to explore change, and so created seed letters: "she planted beansprout seeds in the shape of letters that would grow and change their shape over time." Makes me wanna try it myself!

Wish there were more pics, but unfortunately this was all I could find.

My, what beautiful eyes you have!

All the better to seeeee you with...
HAH! How amazing are these guys?! I kinda squawked when I saw them. It seems that when I find collage art it always happens in groups. So this is more awesome collage awesomeness by ( Ma + Chr )an art and design studio made up of Mathilde Aubier and Christine Delaquaize, based in Paris.

What's a bit weird is that they don't really look that weird... it just seems to work so well!

Retro-Collage Fantasticness

I'm totally besotted with these magnificent creations by a certain Mr Steven Kline, a 17 year old "Retro-Collage Artist" from Ohio.

They're just so awesome. Check out more here.

Metamorphosis - a cool video

Check out this rad video created by String Theory for Good Books, an online bookseller that passes all of its profits through to Oxfam. It's got a kinda creepy, Fear and Loathing kinda feel to it...
It's freakin fantastic.

Thanks to my friend Simon for sharing the link.

Choose Happiness

This is a list I found at Marc and Angel Hack Life that I find very inspiring. I seem to naturally lean towards the negative and often realise that I'm not being the person that I want to be, but find it hard to change that, and that's when I need to remind myself of these things and try to practice them. I hope it helps you, too :)

1. Choose to be the best YOU can be.  Give it your all in everything you do, commit to your goals, and don’t compare yourself to anyone else.

2. Choose to be around the right people.  Surround yourself with people who reflect the person you want to be. Life is too short to spend time with people who suck the happiness out of you.

3. Choose to focus on what you have, not on what you haven’t.  When you appreciate what you have, what you have appreciates in value.

4. Choose a good attitude.  What often screws us up the most in life is the picture in our head of how it’s supposed to be.

5. Choose to smile more often.  Smiling actually makes you happier.

6. Choose to take care of your body.  Taking care of your body is crucial to being the happiest person you can be.

7. Choose honesty.  Integrity is the essence of everything successful.

8. Choose to help others when you’re able.  Care about people.

9. Choose to let go when you know you should.  Love is worth fighting for, but you can’t be the only one fighting. People need to fight for you too.

10. Choose to embrace the next step in your life.  Never let success get to your head and never let failure get to your heart.

"...a smile doesn’t always mean a person is happy right now; sometimes it simply means they are strong enough to face their problems going forward."

"Never let someone’s opinion become your reality. Never sacrifice who you are because someone else has a problem with it."

For each of these points I feel like shouting "Yes! Exactly!". This is a condensed version of their article, if you enjoyed this please go read their full article here. You won't regret it, and you'll want to be a better person after :)

If you have any tips or insights of your own, please share below.

Look What the Cat Dragged In...

So the other day one of the cats dragged this poor guy in. It's what's commonly called a blue-headed lizard/ bloukop koggelmander or Blue Headed Agama LizardI think he was a bit vicious or played dead too long coz the cats backed off pretty quick. I wanted to get a closer look and thought you should, too, coz it's pretty magnificent. The millions of little scales on his body look like jewels and precious stones, and there's such a beautiful range of colours...

Look at the pattern on his back...
It's so awesome, especially the way he looks kinda like a dinosaur or a dragon. Nature never ceases to astound me.

Cool Stuffs

Check out these awesome novelty goodies from Suck UK!

The drops on the umbrella change colour when wet!

And these are the most awesome! Really want that book lamp...

The most awesome bird-feeder evah!

If you need some entertainment for your cats, why not get them a cat scratch turntable!

They also have these cars for them to play in, but none of the cats in the pictures look particularly happy, so maybe don't go with those. They're kinda fun pics to look at though. Lol, just look at Hazel's cute little face!

A Rainy Day and Some Greenery...

So I recently, and somewhat reluctantly, became a part of the smartphone world, with an HTC Desire S, which I love so far. I've been playing around with some of the photography apps and am really loving them - even though i have a love-hate relationship with all these fake effects. I hate the fact that they're fake, but still can't deny that they look rather awesome. And now I'm kind of addicted :P
So on this beautiful rainy Sunday, I got snap-happy and thought I'd share...

The apps I've been using are:
• Retro Camera
• Pudding Camera
• Camera Effects
• FxCamera
• Polaroid Camera
(They're all Android apps)

Do you have any cool Android apps, photography related or otherwise, that you use and love?

Locals Only - An Exhibition

Last night was the opening of the Locals Only exhibition at the Upstairs gallery, presented by WorkingClass and Volcom. Artists from each city were chosen to create a piece that represented their city. Each city had its own 2 colours.
Every piece was really awesome, there's such a high level of talent amongst the illustrators in SA. Check it out...
