I'm sure Durbanites will remember the hoo-haa over the proposed closing of the Umgeni River Bird Park not so long ago... I'm so glad it was saved! Been meaning to go for ages and I finally went a few weeks ago. Unfortunately didn't make it in time for the free flight bird show, but it was still fun. Some incredibly colourful characters in there! Pity about the fencing.
You can buy nectar at the gate to feed the birds... which is a bit difficult through that fencing, but they love it.
These birds had the most amazing long eyelashes ever! Couldn't get a pic that did them justice coz everytime I tried to get it from a good angle she very slowly and ominously turned her head and long pointy beak at me.
These guys were very friendly, that last pic cracks me up everytime!
And look who was lurking round the corner!

Chocolates with Attitude
Denmark-based Bessermachen DesignStudio partnered with “chocolate artist” extraordinaire Henrik Konnerup to create this original series titled Chocolates with Attitude.
"First, there are the chocolates. Produced by Konnerup, 12,000 pieces of artisanal chocolates were each handmade and individually wrapped. Flavors range from chocolate with lavender to dark chocolate with curry and pistachio, all inspired by a contemporary spin on traditional Nordic cuisine and Scandinavian tastes.
Then, there is the packaging. For all 12,000 pieces, 1,000 boxes with 12 different designs were created (still with us?). Each box reflects the identity of the product within and though all are distinct, the multiple packages come together nicely as a holistic collection. Graffiti, blackboards, comic books, confetti, and music sheets are just a few of the standouts in the series."
Pretty sweet, methinks. (No pun intended)

Creative and fearless!
Ok, so my doodle a day thing didn't quite take off... Yet. I shall rename it to A Few Doodles A Week, and that should work. Anyway, I found this poster quite apt, so here's to being creative and fearless :)
Have a happy Friday and a great weekend!

The Daily Doodle
Ok so this is something new I want to do: I'm going to try to do a doodle a day (say that fast!). Emphasis on try here, peeps. I'm not great with sticking to things, but better to have tried than not, right?
I keep saying I'm going to do it... but then I don't. So after reading the ebook Start to Draw Your Life by Michael Nobbs, I felt inspired and I'm jumping into it before I get lazy. Here goes!

An old armchair that I've got in my room that I really love.
Much old teacup love.
How dapper and gentlemanly does this dude look? Love it.
How amazeballz is this ring! I had to have it. It's a vintage watch movement ring from a cool little lady at the I Heart Market... Unfortunately didn't get her deets but I'm sure she'll be there again.
1 of my favourite brooches
My favourite earrings.
A ragged toothed shark tooth! Gift from a friend.
Muchos aggro-looking moth dude!
NUTS about this squirrel brooch! (Get it? Haha! Hah. nevermind.) Also a gift, lucky me.

Oh, Vlad.
This post was inspired by this post by Miss Moss, although it is not really related in any way other than art.
I've always loved Tretchikoff's work, so this is my little tribute.
