Holiday Pics: The Wild West Museum

The Wild West Museum
Took a drive past The Waffle House, and not too far from there we came across a Wild West Museum! I was SO amped, it was like a hidden treasure. I think this visit was the coolest part of the holiday! It's new and incomplete, but so so cool. There's a pub all kitted out like a proper wild west saloon and everything! There'll be an animal farm there as well, apparently, but at the moment it's just 2 donkeys, a horse and a massive black pig. I'm keen to go back there :)

The Beach!
Uvongo beach is really just so beautiful...
This is the view from the bridge going over the river that leads to Uvongo beach. Pretty awesome...

Yummy food & other interesting things...
There's this awesome little restaurant at the main Margate beach called Larry's. The ceiling, walls and even furniture are covered by these wooden signs! They're all personal messages from  people who have eaten there over the years. It's so freakin' cool, what a great idea! It was started over 15 years ago: the messages are burnt onto wood panels and there are now over 12 000 of them!

So I've finally got a few seconds to put up these long overdue holiday pics!
It was a really great holiday and I love these pics...

Random bits
Flavoured shaved ice! It was just perfect on that blistering hot day... and I liked the way it looked in the sunlight :)
Really liked this leaf too. Found it on the beach.

Lovely illustrations

Love these little illustrations and stories from Missed Connections:

"Messages in bottles, smoke signals, letters written in the sand; the modern equivalents are the funny, sad, beautiful, hopeful, hopeless, poetic posts on Missed Connections websites. Every day hundreds of strangers reach out to other strangers on the strength of a glance, a smile or a blue hat. Their messages have the lifespan of a butterfly. I'm trying to pin a few of them down."

Beautiful.

Die Antwoord!

Not gonna lie, I'm slightly obsessed at the moment. Came across this video for South African band Die Antwoord's music video for their song Zef Side:

"Die Antwoord is a zef rap-rave crew from Cape Town, South Africa. Die Antwoord crew is Ninja, Yo-landi Vi$$er and DJ Hi-Tek. Die Antwoord is a lovable, mongrel-like entity made in South Africa, the love-child of many diverse cultures, black, white, coloured and alien, all pumped into one wild and crazy journey down the crooked path to enlightenment."
Listen to their album on their site!

Reminds me of the good ol' days of Corne and Twakkie and T*M*A*S... flip I miss those guys.

But anyway... It's basically South African Afrikaaner white trash siffness at it's best. I'm lovin' it.

RSS - it's awesome

I used to subscribe to blogs and sites via email subscriptions, so I could get the lastest updates without having to always go to the actual site coz there were so many sites I liked, it'd take ages to go to each individual one.

Then I discovered RSS. Wow.

I've noticed that most people aren't really aware of RSS feeds and what they do, but it's such an awesome, superconvenient, simple thing that I think anyone who loves the net should know about and use. Here's a little explanation:
RSS (Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication) is a format used to publish frequently updated works—such as blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video—in a standardized format. It works like this: you have a Feed Reader (like a program/application/site) which collects all the latest posts from any sites or blogs that you subscribe to. Therefore, all the latest posts are in one place for you to catch up on at your leisure, so you don't miss anything.
There are several different feed readers, but I use Google Reader. Simply sign up and it's really easy to get started. You can also 'star', 'share' and 'like' posts, all from the feed reader. It makes it easier to bookmark stuff that way as well.
Most sites have RSS feeds now. Look for the Rss icon >

Do it! :)

Getting back in shape!

The gluttony of the holidays has taken it's toll and left me feeling not so great about myself, so I've been making a vague attempt at being healthier and getting back in shape. The fact that at this stage my "exercise routine" barely makes it to 10 minutes and is made up of a random collection of painful Pilates moves is irrelevant - I feel better already! (it's been 2 days so far :P )
I love working out, especially like pilates and taebo kinda stuff, endorphins are addictive. I'm just a bit lazy to actually get to the point of doing it. But this is a good start, methinks.

Let's hope this lasts long enough to make a visible difference :)

Some quick moves here, here, here, here and here.

And... it's back to work...

So I'm back home, well rested and (unfortunately) several shades darker than when I left. But alas, that can't be helped.
The holiday came to an end on Friday...t'was rather sad. I've got lotsa awesome pics I wanna share but I haven't had time to sort through them yet. They'll be up soon though, so keep an eye out!
I don't anticipate much blogging during this week, work is probably going to be a bit hectic, and I'm feeling a bit under the weather.

In the meantime, here are some cool pics I found on this cool site I stumbled upon: pretty japanese manhole covers!

Have an awesome week!

Holiday time! (for me, hehe)

So I only got a lame one-week "holiday" over Christmas and new year... But I'm taking some leave now (more leave than I actually have, but nevermind that) to go for a much needed...

Vakansie by die See!
(Holiday by the Sea)

Yay me :D So amped, I can't wait! Going down to the beautiful south coast of KZN, a little place called Uvongo, near Margate. Should be nice and chilled.
No blogging for a whole week though (*shock*horror* I don't own a laptop), but hopefully I'll have something interesting to say when I get back.

I plan on working on getting into a healthier routine while I'm out there. For me this includes:
- Sleeping early(ish)
- Walking a lot (to get fit and lose some weight)
- Drinking water and eating fruit
Will see how that goes... :P Hope I get to meet some interesting people too...

These are some pics from previous awesome vakansies...

Movies!

I watched Avatar in 3D these holidays...it was SO freakin awesome! I wasn't really impressed by the trailer so I wasn't too keen to see it, but I'm so glad I did. The 3D effect is fantastic, it adds so much more to this movie in particular. The graphics will blow your mind, they're so beautiful and so well done! If you haven't seen it yet, you must, and watch it in 3D. It won't be anywhere near the same on DVD.

Kitchen tea!

My friend is tying the knot! So excited! Here are some pics from her kitchen tea...

How rad are these cupcakes?! And soo yummeh!...

Belated Happy New Year!

Beautiful little finds...

How awesome are these accessories from Little Miso?! SO awesome. Really love this stuff. She also has some beautiful illustrations. Check out more of her stuff on her site, her blog or her Etsy shop.

Quoted:

[She] becomes aware of some kind of spreading warmth inside her. At first she is alarmed, wondering what that is. But then she recognizes it. Happiness.

Chocolate and orange yumness

So I've been internetless and unexpectedly away from home for a while. I've got so much pent-up blogness to unleash... Here goes!

I made these awesome cups of yumness a few days ago. Wasn't expecting them to be quite as rich as they were, but that's not a bad thing. They're great for dessert, served hot with ice-cream, cream or custard. The texture is amazing: they're firm on the outside and soft on the inside with a marshmallowy kind of feel (due to the whipped egg whites, i reckon). I love the orangey taste and the bits of orange rind.

Here's the recipe from Epicurious, a great site for all sorts of recipes:
